ABORTION

Unlike other countries, in India abortion is illegal. though there are laws which has certain sections abortion is actually permissible, that too only if the mothers life is in danger. in mumbai a recent case that has been making headlines is, about a certain Mr and Mrs mehta moving to high court to ask for permission to abort their child. what they are concerned is not the gender of the child, but that the child has been detected with a serious heart disease which is terminal.
there are many who say, that the parents are irresponsible, they don't deserveo be the parents if they are not prepared to have the baby. others say by permitting such a case people will use it to kill girl child and make infanticide legal. while others say abortion is a sin.
i too don't support abortion but in this case it is only fair. because every child wants to have a healthy life and parents too would wish the same. when this child grows up he would question his parents why they entrusted him with such a handicap life. he too would deserve a good life like other normal kids. maybe this doesn't sound fair. as if the handicap don't deserve equal opportunities but then rationally thinking wouldn't the child, rather it is just a foetus, a giant cell now; be better of without life rather than have such a burden to deal with throughout life? i mean lets think about the mother, it is not easy on her to take this decision specially this being her first child but to ensure her child and her life a better direction she is willing to do what it takes. what good will that motherhood do if she had the baby and treated it as an obligation and specially if she wouldn't be able to treat their child to the best of medication for the terminal disease which in itself is not curable? i don't know if i was the mother what i would have done, but surely if i felt i wouldn't be able to give my child my all then i wouldn't be bringing my love into this world at all, but this is hypothetical don't know if i will ever be able to do it in real life.
what do you think about this? do you think the government should allow abortions and devise a system to keep infanticide in check at the same time? do u think the mehta's are wrong?

well..my friend most of us already know the answer...

if govt allow abortions here...you know how elder ones(nana ji,naniji)
ever1 is so happy when a son is born ...i know have had witness instances like these in ma family.
So the girl is always under pressure ever1 is like "Ladka hi hoga"...
you must have heard it many times.

if given a choice of abortions ...i know we indians will break the record of most number of abortions in a year...reason being...the baby that was to be born was female.As most of the parents wants to have a boy.Some of you may not agree but still most of the population thinks this way.

rest..i think mehtas are right...they know there child would suffer in front of there eyes...and they deserve to win this.

I agree with u. If the mother is terminally ill, why bring a child into this world, that cud put both the mother and the baby in danger?

Keshi.

not onlin danger, but the possibility of the baby having to live his/her entire life with health issues.

At this stage, this baby is only a bunch of cells..like u said. As cruel as it may sound, Im only trying to see the FUTURE of this innocent child.

This is a sad issue where the world will have its views but the people who have to undergo the pain have a different feeling altogether...

it is somewhat like a movie I saw recently where a paraplegic poet by accident wants euthnasia to be legal in his case as he cant stand seeing his close ppl suffer...cause of him

the ppl close to him have a diff view that they love him and want him to be around whereas he is of the point - that if you really do love me - liberate me...

how have you been?

yeah i know because my mom had to face the music when she had me...and she had,had to hear, things like yet another girl?o god what a curse :X so i know...

but you know what abortions are not there only to kill girl child but also to save those rape victims, or girls who have been knocked up...or in this case to prevent a child suffer through his life......

not necessarily it means all bad things. i knew of a lady who had an abortion because she couldn't support a second child mentally and physically since she had delivered her first born just 3 months back; so it wouldnt have been right for her to have another child so soon, not just for her health but financially too

moreover people vending condoms at chemists shop or departmental stores make such a fuss when a couple buys it that it has an adverse effect on the couple who were actually doing the right thing by taking responsibility. they now become shy and that leads to unwanted pregnancies! i think India is getting a bit hypocritical

@keshi
exactly ..if parents want nothing but the best for their child what is wrong with that?at least they are taking responsibility for their actions and that is an important thing. not most can do it.

@mays
yup i agree.. but it should be made illegal for the reasons i stated to [-v-]

but some very tough measures should be enforced to keep things in place. because despite being illegal it is done anyway
